Cruise ship Nautica in Bergen, Norway; Oceania Cruises

Making her one-and-only visit to Bergen in 2017 today was Oceania Cruises' Nautica.

Originally entering service in 2000 as R Five (one of eight R-Class ships built for the now-defunct Renaissance Cruises) she sailed brifely for Pullmantur Cruises from 2002-2004, before being acquired by Oceania Cruises and joining their fleet as Nautica the folloing year.

Regular readers will remember our post about Nautica's sister ship Pacific Princess last month, which provides a bit of extra information about the scattering of several of these R-Class ships throughout the industry.

Nautica has a length of 181m, a gross tonnage of 30,277 and can accommodate up to 824 passengers, with a crew of around 325.

The following photos show Nautica alongside at Skolten (on what I call the 'wrong side' of the terminal building; much of her hull and superstrucutre is obscured). Unfortunately I am unable to make it to her departure later this evening.

Also in port today was Costa Favolosa.

MS Trollfjord - Photo Tour

Up next in the series of photo tours on board the ships of Hurtigruten is MS Trollfjord. Regular readers of this blog will know the drill by now; MS Trollfjord is one of a fleet of 11 ships that together offer daily departures from Bergen on the Express route along the coast of Norway. The ships serve a dual roll as both cruise ships and cargo ships, and are vital in connecting many of the smaller communities in the northern part of the country. MS Nordlys - Photo Tour

Second in our current series of photo tours aboard the ships in the Hurtigruten fleet is MS Nordlys. Along with her fleetmates she sails the 11-day round trip from Bergen, calling at 34 ports along the coast of Norway. The route is popular with cruise tourists keen to experience 'the most beautiful voyage in the world', and also serves as a lifeline for many smaller communities in Norway's more isolated north.
