Cruise ship Star Pride in Bergen, Norway; Windstar Cruises

Today the small, luxury cruise ship Star Pride called into Bergen.

Originally entering service in 1988 as Seabourn Pride, she was the first of a series of 3 identical ships built for the then newly-formed (and now well established, arguably market-leading) Seabourn Cruise Line. After a long and successful career with Seabourn, this entire series of ships was acquired by Windstar Cruises, with Seabourn Pride becoming Star Pride in 2014, ready for her new role.

Star Pride has a length of 133m, a gross tonnage of 9,975, and accommodates just 208 passengers, served by a crew of 164.

Any B-Movie enthusiasts will recognise Star Pride as the sister ship of Seabourn Legend, which featured prominently in the (awful) 1997 movie Speed 2: Cruise Control.

Star Pride is an attractive little ship, and looked smart and well maintained, especially considering the 30 years of service she already has behind her. The following photos show her arriving into Bergen this morning, then as she turned ready to depart this afternoon.

Also in port today, and visible in a few of these photos, was AIDAluna.

MS Trollfjord - Photo Tour

Up next in the series of photo tours on board the ships of Hurtigruten is MS Trollfjord. Regular readers of this blog will know the drill by now; MS Trollfjord is one of a fleet of 11 ships that together offer daily departures from Bergen on the Express route along the coast of Norway. The ships serve a dual roll as both cruise ships and cargo ships, and are vital in connecting many of the smaller communities in the northern part of the country. MS Vesterålen - Photo Tour

One of the more unusual members of the Hurtigruten fleet is MS Vesterålen . She operates on the 11-day round trip from Bergen, calling at 34 ports along the coast of Norway. The route is popular with cruise tourists keen to experience 'the most beautiful voyage in the world', and also serves as a lifeline for many smaller communities in Norway's more isolated north.
