Cruise ship Ocean Majesty in Bergen, Norway

Another visitor to Bergen today was the classic cruise ship Ocean Majesty.

She offers relaxed, modest cruises for the German-speaking market, and stands in stark contrast to today's modern mega ships. There's no hiding the age of Ocean Majesty in her exterior styling, but it's always nice to see a ship with some more traditional lines.

Ocean Majesty has had a long a varied career since first entering service as Juan March in 1966, and filling in the past half-century of her service history would take quite a while!

She first took the name Ocean Majesty in 1988, and currently operates summer cruises under charter to Hansa Touristik.

I took the following photos of her alongside at Skolten. Also in town today was Hamburg.

MS Trollfjord - Photo Tour

Up next in the series of photo tours on board the ships of Hurtigruten is MS Trollfjord. Regular readers of this blog will know the drill by now; MS Trollfjord is one of a fleet of 11 ships that together offer daily departures from Bergen on the Express route along the coast of Norway. The ships serve a dual roll as both cruise ships and cargo ships, and are vital in connecting many of the smaller communities in the northern part of the country. MS Vesterålen - Photo Tour

One of the more unusual members of the Hurtigruten fleet is MS Vesterålen . She operates on the 11-day round trip from Bergen, calling at 34 ports along the coast of Norway. The route is popular with cruise tourists keen to experience 'the most beautiful voyage in the world', and also serves as a lifeline for many smaller communities in Norway's more isolated north.
